Texas State remained undefeated against Big 12 opponents Wednesday night.

The Bobcats (30-8) defeated 13th-ranked Baylor 1-0 in front of 631 fans at Bobcat Softball Stadium, snapping the Bears’ eight-game winning streak.

It was Texas State’s fourth win over a Big 12 opponent this year, but its first win over Baylor since 2012 and its first against a ranked opponent since defeating Texas 9-5 on March 2, 2016.

The Bobcats got the victory when Kennedy Cline scored on a ground ball by Christina McDowell in the bottom of the seventh inning for the game’s only run.

Junior pitcher Randi Rupp put on another dominant performance, giving up three hits and striking out four to improve to 20-5 in the circle. It was her eighth complete-game shutout this season and third straight.

Rupp was named the espnW player of the week on Wednesday, adding a fifth weekly honor to her growing collection. She was also the NFCA national pitcher of the week and Sun Belt pitcher and player of the week.

Rupp has tossed 24 innings of scoreless softball and has won four straight outings, which includes a 2-1 victory over Texas on April 5 in San Marcos.

Her 204 strikeouts are the seventh most in the nation among Division I pitchers and her 0.95 earned run average ranks her 13th.

Texas State hosts No. 17 Louisiana Lafayette this weekend for a three-game series. The series opens with a doubleheader Friday with the first game scheduled to start at 5 p.m. The series wraps up with a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday.
